Let's explore the products within KCM Set in depth.
¶ What is KCM and what does it do?
The Klipper Chroma Module (KCM), designed for Klipper-based systems, is an extension aimed at adding color printing capabilities to these systems. Additionally, the KCM provides ChromaHead control feature to the 3D printer. The ChromaHead offers advanced features such as filament cutting, input shaper, an extruder with high grip values, an enhanced cooling system, and a specially designed hotend for color printing. Moreover, the KCM allows for the independent use of up to 4 CX-1 Extruders. By connecting the ECM module to the KCM, you can control up to 20 extruders and obtain multi-filament prints. The KCM Set includes 1 KCM, 1 ChromaHead, and 4 CX-1 Extruders.
You can review the compatibility list we have prepared to see which printers are compatible with the KCM Set. Compatible List
The KCM enables multicolor printing with Klipper-based 3D printers.
KCM also can be used for various setups. If you already have a ChromaPad for your 3D printer, you can connect the KCM to the ChromaPad to manage your second 3D printer at the same time with the first one.
KCM also works with tablets like KCM Sonic Pad, BTT Pad, and Flsun Pad. If you have one of these tablets, you can achieve multicolor printing with KCM.
If you have set up a Klipper setup for your 3D printer using a mini computer like Raspberry Pi or Orange Pi, you can still use KCM with this setup. By connecting the KCM to your control board via USB port, you can add color printing capability to your setup.
Most new generation 3D printers already come with Klipper included. If you have such a printer, you can directly connect the KCM to your printer via the USB port to enable color printing functionality.
ChromaHead features an outer cover that can be easily attached with magnets, allowing convenient access to internal components. The fan used to cool the extruded filament is directly attached to the outer cover. Air channels are present on the outer cover to direct the air from the fan towards the filament. Additionally, there are ventilation grilles on the sides and front of ChromaHead to allow intake of air for the internal fans.
The modular Filament Cutter mechanism inside ChromaHead consists of gears driven by a torque-boosted and reinforced DC motor. This motor is driven like a servo. Due to its modular structure, this mechanism, which has high durability and filament cutting stability, can be easily replaced in case of any malfunction.
Inside ChromaHead, there is a modular extruder mechanism with high torque and gripping capability. It has a structure that can be easily removed, installed, and maintained. The extruder includes a filament sensor. It provides the ability to feed filament smartly and powerfully as a dual drive.
The ChromaHotend, located behind the filament cooling fan, with high flow rates, can be easily removed and installed using standard connection screws. Developed in collaboration with Phaetus, the ChromaHotend is specially optimized for color printing.
Metal funnel and connection point allow filament to pass through 8in1 without getting stuck. 4 slots of the 8in1 Module are reserved for the 4 filaments coming directly from ChromaPad. The other 4 slots are reserved for the 4 ECM modules that can be attached later.
ChromaHead can be compatible with different adapters thanks to the high-quality aluminum main body part that holds all the components together. It can be easily assembled through the connection sockets. Its robust structure eliminates issues such as flexing and breaking.
To attach ChromaHead to different types of 3D printers, additional printing parts are required. Click here to examine the parts.
The Toolhead connection cable is secured to the main frame with two bolts in addition to its claw-like structure for a stable connection. This ensures there are no connection issues whatsoever. Additionally, it comes with a specially reinforced cable that also features anti-tangling properties. This cable is connected to the relevant slot of ChromaPad, which will directly interface with ChromaHead.
Thanks to the Omron table calibration sensor, you can achieve precise table calibration. The sensor, directly attached to the aluminum frame, ensures stable calibration without slipping or shifting.
The CX-I Extruder is designed to feed filament smoothly and reliably. The upper, lower body, and motor are connected to each other with three screws. Featuring a dual-drive structure, the extruder uses a Filament Compression Clamp to grip the filament, and a compression nut with a spring to tighten the clamp. There is a PTFE holder at the front of the extruder for easy installation of PTFE. Additionally, the CX-I extruder can easily be attached to sigma profiles with an accessory.
